I found my mantra in Dory today while swimming with my neighbor friend at the new aquatic center. I swam last week but it was a slow, weak 800. Since I hadn't swam in months I was happy to even complete that distance but it was to my own admission, a piss poor effort. Today was a much faster pace and included every stroke...except fly because I would probably drown and blow a shoulder. In that order. My friend of course attacked the water and did 50 fly like a pro while I did the side stroke. I know, pathetic. Since I literally ONLY do freestyle..not well but I do it. I was a little antsy about the other strokes but I didn't want to look like a big fat chicken in front of my new training partner. There's races in her future...she just doesn't know it yet! Come to find out my form was pretty darn good! I'm slow as hell of course but hey, atleast my form is good. Diana is an expert so she had great tips for every stroke that helped me pull through with atleast an ounce of dignity. I'm sure crashing into the wall during backstroke provided some entertainment for the people in the cardio room above. I know I would of been laughing. Actually I was, once the tweety birds stopped flying around my head! Also, she successfully broke me of my habit of breathing only on my right side during freestyle and I'm happy to announce I officially go both ways now ;)
Here is the work out we did...
100 free warm up
50 each stroke- fly/side, breast, back, free
50 each stroke pull
50 each stroke kick
50 each stroke
100 free cool down
*Tip: Doing the fly kick forward and on your back, as well as the side stroke with a buoy are awesome ab exercises!*
